Where to Start:
If you are having trouble with your machine, call your local tech support or bring it back to the store you bought it from. But note what wrong with the PC. A following list of what to do.
What software were you were running.
Were you running more than one program at a time. (In a environment like Windows XP, there will be more than one process going on at the same time).
Were you running a game program. (Some game's will tax your system resources).
Have you installed new software.
Have you installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 recently!!!
Here are some SP2 Frequently Asked Questions.
Have you installed new hardware.
Are you hearing noise from your hard drive such as grinding. A sure sign of a problem to come.
Do you have the right driver's for your hardware.
Do you have UPS for system.
Make sure you have the serial numbers, registration numbers, login on ID, version ID of your software, computer setting, such as DSL/Cable IP address, etc, etc, etc...... When dealing with tech support they will ask for all manner of things. So make sure you have all numbers ID's, setting ready.
If all else fail (and it should not). You can go on the internet and type in the problem on a search engine such as Goggle.
As a last resort go to the library and research the problem with the help of books and magazines you can find. You can look for back issues of computer magazines. There are as least 10 reason to uses the library and not the internet.
Anyway the idea is to take note of what you were doing and the condition of you system when you started having the trouble.
